The Georgia Council on American Indian Concerns was created by the Georgia General Assembly and is the only state entity specifically authorized to address the concerns of Georgia's American Indians. It is tasked with fostering the cultural heritage of American Indians in Georgia, advising state and local government on issues affecting American Indians, and assisting with American Indian burial protection and repatriation.
The Council consists of nine Governor-appointed members, five of which are required to be American Indians, and also includes one physical anthropologist, one archaeologist, one other scientist and one at-large member.
The above is take directly from the state website - but no members of this committee are listed. This group is supposed to rotate, when was the last time there was rotation on this committee? Nealy McCormick has been involved with this committee for decades. His own Indian hertiage is questionable, yet he oversees this committee.
Please see the Department of Interior document confirming that this committee has NO AUTHORITY.
The Council of Indian Concerns has been led by Nealie McCormick for decades. There has been little to no rotation on this State board, creating an unlawful monopoly by one person and his family. Their "tribe" is taking grant money, which could create o conflict of interest. The Lower Muskogee Creek Tribe should be subjected to a forensic audit. The $522, 034.00 in grants listed on the 2019 990 form should be investigated.
This commission needs to be disbanded with other Indian leaders named to the Council.
Some have questioned if the Cumming, GA based tribe has been recognized by the state. This letter proves that Governor Barnes, the 80th Governor of Georgia did in fact recognize the Cumming tribe as the legitimate Cherokee Indian tribe in the state. Additionally, Governor Zell Miller was an honorary member of the Cumming, GA based tribe as well.
Some have questioned which Georgia Tribe of Eastern Cherokee is the legitimate tribe. At the founding of the Georgia Tribe of Eastern Cherokee, the tribe did not have a physical address. Someone in the clerk's office decided to just list a PO Box with the year of our founding, 1993. This letter confirms that the PO Box was not a real address when it was listed. This allowed a nefarious group to claim the PO Box as their own and therefore added confusion by listing themselves as a tribe based in Dahlonega, GA. One family does not equal a tribe. The Cumming, GA tribe verifies the geneology of ALL their members prior to being admitted. If somone cannot prove their direct Cherokee lineage, their application is rejected.
From famous figures to unsung heroes, our town is home to a variety of local legends. Join us as we explore the stories and myths behind these fascinating individuals.
